چکیده

[1] A model of Venus’ atmosphere permittivity profile up to 300 km is developed in this paper for X band. The model includes both the real and imaginary parts of the atmospheric permittivity, derived using data sets inferred or directly measured from past exploration missions to Venus: the real part is obtained by calculating the total polarization of the mixture of the atmospheric components including CO2, N2, H2O, SO2, H2SO4, CO, etc.; the imaginary part is derived using the superposition of the absorption of each component. The properties of the atmospheric components such as polarization and absorption are modeled with respect to frequency, temperature, and pressure. The validity of this model is verified by comparing simulation results with available measurements of Venus’ atmosphere. This permittivity model is intended as a critical tool for the design of next‐generation orbiting radar systems, in particular interferometric radars.

The near-infrared nitric oxide nightglow in the upper atmosphere of Venus.

The v' = 0 progressions of the C --> X and A --> X band systems of nitric oxide dominate the middle-UV spectrum of the night-time upper atmospheres of the Earth, Mars, and Venus. The C(0) --> A(0)+h nu radiative transition at 1.224 mum, the only channel effectively populating the A(0) level, must therefore occur also. There have been, however, no reported detections of the C(0) --> A(0) band in...

Simulations of the Atmospheric Microwave and Millimeter Wave Emission from Venus using a Radiative

Introduction: The Georgia Tech Venus Radiative Transfer Model (VRTM) can be used to model the effects of the abundances of microwave and millimeter wave absorbing constituents on the emission from the Venus troposphere and mesosphere. The primary components of the Venus atmosphere are CO2 and N2, but variation in concentration of sulfur compounds, specifically gaseous H2SO4 and SO2, result in c...

Basalt–atmosphere Interaction on Venus: Preliminary Results on Weathering of Minerals and Bulk Rock

Introduction: Chemical interactions between Venus’ atmosphere and surface rocks may be crucial to understanding the atmosphere’s composition [1-3], and to interpreting surface geology and physical properties [2,4,5]. Most studies have emphasized the atmosphere – its composition and ‘chemical sediments,’ and few have focused on what happens to basalts and their minerals in reaction with the atmo...

The puzzling Venusian polar atmospheric structure reproduced by a general circulation model

Unlike the polar vortices observed in the Earth, Mars and Titan atmospheres, the observed Venus polar vortex is warmer than the midlatitudes at cloud-top levels (∼65 km). This warm polar vortex is zonally surrounded by a cold latitude band located at ∼60° latitude, which is a unique feature called 'cold collar' in the Venus atmosphere. Although these structures have been observed in numerous pr...

Modified U-Slot Stacked Micro-Strip Patch Antenna for Ultra-Wideband Applications in S Band, C Band and X Band

The U-slot micro-strip patch antennas were originally developed for bandwidth broadening applications. This study presents a transmission line feed to modify the U-slot stacked rectangular micro-strip patch antenna for Ultra-Wide Band (UWB) communications. The modified antenna has a U-cut loaded with parallel slits and corner slots and is printed on a dielectric substrate of FR4 with relative p...
